Report: Jets, Jameis Winston having hard time scheduling meeting

The Jets have been spending time with the top quarterback prospects in this year’s draft and hoped to have Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston in for a visit as they continue their preparations for April 30.

Winston’s a busy man these days, though, and the Jets have plenty of other work to do before things get going in Chicago, which may force them to change their plans. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the visit may be scrapped because the two sides are having a hard time finding a time to get together that works for both of them.

The lack of a meeting won’t wind up meaning a thing if Winston is selected first overall by the Buccaneers, as expected, and probably wouldn’t mean anything if he did drop to the Jets with the sixth pick. The Jets would pick him and then worry about further getting to know you sessions and they probably have a good idea already if they’d be willing to trade up to get Winston. That presumes there’d be reciprocal trade interest and, again, it appears the Bucs will just pick Winston themselves.

The Jets have spent or will spend time with Oregon’s Marcus Mariota, Baylor’s Bryce Petty, UCLA’s Brett Hundley and Colorado State’s Garrett Grayson, all of whom are likelier additions than Winston.
