Suh shows up for first day of offseason program

It’s a new day for Ndamukong Suh and the Dolphins. The man who consistently opted not to volunteer for large chunks of the voluntary offseason program in Detroit has shown up in Miami for the launch of Phase One of non-mandatory workouts.

According to the Dolphins, Suh is present and accounted for.

It’s a surprise, given his history -- and given that his contract ties only $15,000 per year (not a typo . . . for a change) to showing up for offseason workouts. And it shows a level of maturity and self-awareness that Suh has failed to demonstrate in the past.

As in the recent past. As in when he claimed in late December that he didn’t realize he was stepping on the leg of Aaron Rodgers because Suh’s feet had gone numb from being attached to the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field.

He still has a long way to go to earn that new contract, which pays out nearly $60 million in fully guaranteed money. But if the goal is to ingratiate himself to the team, coaches, teammates, and fans, Suh is off to the right start.
