Byron Jones was a star of the NFL Combine in February when he became the first performer to perform a broad jump of greater than 12 feet in the entire history of the event.
Jones destroyed the former record of 11 feet, 7 inches by jumping an incredible 12 feet, 3 inches. Jones’ ridiculous jump helped draw some more attention to the Connecticut cornerback.
Now he’s a first-round pick. The Dallas Cowboys selected Jones with the No. 27 overall pick in the draft.
Jones fills a substantial need for the Cowboys. Morris Claiborne is sidelined through the offseason while recovering from injury. In addition, Brandon Carr may become a cap casualty as he has stated he is not open to taking a pay cut.
Jones could potentially serve as a replacement for Carr that would allow Dallas to move forward this offseason.
