Arizona State safety Damarious Randall was one of the players whose stock rose the most during the period between the end of the college season to the draft and his upward momentum made him the first safety taken in the 2015 draft.

The Packers took Randall with the 30th pick of the first round with his skills in coverage likely playing a big role in why he wound up coming off the board before Alabama’s Landon Collins and everyone else at the position. It’s the second straight year that the Packers have taken a safety in the first round with Collins’s college teammate Ha Ha Clinton-Dix joining the club last season.

Randall had six interceptions, 15 tackles for losses and four forced fumbles over his two seasons with the Sun Devils and the Packers will be hoping he can be the same kind of playmaker at the professional level. Morgan Burnett, Sean Richardson and Micah Hyde round out the rest of the safety group in Green Bay.

With his coverage skills and junior college experience as a cornerback, Randall may be initially ticketed for a role in nickel and dime packages in Green Bay.
