Jerry Jones feels good about team, but isn’t making Super Bowl predictions

While accepting an award last month, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo said that the Cowboys would win the Super Bowl next year.

It’s a move that seemed to come directly out of owner Jerry Jones’s playbook, although that book may be up for revision before it heads to the printers for a new edition. Jones said Wednesday that he “completely” understands why Romo said that, but he won’t be setting the bar quite that high even if he shares Romo’s good feelings about the team.

“Let’s don’t confuse how good we feel about our team with putting [the Super Bowl] around the neck of something that if we did know [we] could beat those kinds of odds, then life would be a lot different for all of us,” Jones said, via ESPN.com. “That’s a statement that is real hard to live up to. No one knows it better than we do.”

Indeed they do, but Jones’s unwillingness to shoot expectations into the stratosphere is probably a good thing for a team that’s still putting together their defense for the coming season. Jones said he thinks the signing of Greg Hardy and drafting of Randy Gregory will help the team generate the kind of pressure they didn’t consistently get last season, although the question marks about both players help explain why he’s not ready to shoot for the glory hole in May.

  1. Jerry get the Hardy suspension dropped to 5 games then sign whatever FA rb that has a burst and upgrade from wheeden

  2. romo has only won two playoff games in his entire career

so its only logical that a SB win is an unrealistic expectation

see you in week 2 boys

  3. Cowpies are going nowhere. Murray was the engine of that offense and he’s gone, Romo is a year older, and the defense isn’t any better. Give me a break. They’ll be lucky to win the NFC Least.

  4. He should be working over Goodell to get Tom Brady’s suspension pushed past the DAL/NE game.

  5. I think the best team in the NFL doesn’t win the Superbowl more often than not. If you go back and watch the games leading up to them, you can see lucky bounces, blown officials calls, bonehead plays, bonehead play calls, etc.

So even if you build the best NFL team, making Superbowl predictions is stupid.

What? What did he say? I have no idea what the above quote means. I’m sort of sure it’s English, but it is so mangled that it makes no sense at all. I mean, c’mon Jer. Maybe the reason the statement is so hard to live up to is that nobody, including you, has a clue what the statement says or means.

And how do you envision putting the Super Bowl around the neck of anything?

Pulleeze, somebody tell me WTF he’s talking about!

He was directly asked about Tony Romo’s comment last month where Tony said the team would win the Super Bowl. The hard to live up to comment came from that.
I really hope you are aware that around the neck has been used for centuries. Albatross around the neck, the yoke around the neck has been used in countless contexts.

Big statement from a team that has two subpar QB’s who don’t even have passer ratings over 80 for their career. Compare it to Romo’s 97.6 rating.

I think it is a safe bet that Dallas could win the Superbowl before Sam Bradford can play in 16 games.

  10. The reason that the Cowboys WONT win the big game is Romo. He will screw it up. Best chance fer da Boys is if Romo gets knocked out for the whole season.

  11. i feel good about the prospects of there being multiple arrests and suspensions for this season’s Dallas team.

  12. Never forget what a genius Jerry Jones is, after all he had to be restrained from drafting Johnny Manziel a year ago.
