NFL reinstates free agent tight end Fred Davis

Former Washington tight end Fred Davis, suspended indefinitely by the NFL in February 2014 under the substance-abuse policy, has been reinstated, PFT’s Mike Florio reports.

The 29-year-old Davis is immediately free to sign with clubs.

Davis hauled in 162 passes for 2,043 yards and 13 touchdowns in six seasons with Washington (2008-2013). On his best, he would appeal to clubs looking to add some pass-catching punch to the tight end position.

However, Davis is several years removed from top form. He suffered an Achilles tendon tear in 2012, and he had a disappointing 2013 campaign.

What’s more, Davis has had multiple off-field incidents. In 2014, he was arrested for DUI, and he was involved in an alleged dispute with an ex-girlfriend.
