The Vikings waived two players on Monday, including first-year wide receiver Kain Colter, the club said.

Colter (6-0, 195) signed with Minnesota as an undrafted free agent last May. He spent the preseason with the club, was waived, then re-signed to the practice squad for the regular season. The Vikings signed him to the offseason roster in December.

After his collegiate career ended, Colter helped lead a push for Northwestern football players to unionize. In March 2014, the National Relations Labor Board ruled football players were Northwestern employees and could vote to organize. The vote was held last April, but the results are not yet known pending the school’s appeal to the NLRB.

The Vikings also announced they had waived rookie guard Jesse Somsel of Saginaw Valley State.

Minnesota now has 88 players, two under the 90-person limit.
