Marty Hurney was the General Manager of the Panthers when they took quarterback Cam Newton with the first overall pick of the 2011 draft, but he’s no longer in charge of making the personnel decisions in Carolina.
He’s now a radio host at ESPN 730 in Charlotte, which reported on Monday that Newton is close to agreeing with current General Manager Dave Gettleman on an extension that will keep Newton in charge of the offense for several years to come. Hurney will join Mike Florio on Monday’s edition of PFT Live to discuss Newton’s forthcoming deal.
Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer will also be on the show to talk about a quarterback who was picked in the first round, although it’s another off-field story about Johnny Manziel. It was an incident with a fan trying to get under Manziel’s skin at a golf tournament this time, one that the Browns have deemed a non-issue but one we’ll hear more about from Cabot all the same.
