Fred Jackson: Bills want McCoy to get 300-plus carries

Eagles coach Chip Kelly’s aversion to “jingle-footed” running backs may have helped convince him to trade LeSean McCoy, but it doesn’t seem like the Bills have the same issue.

They traded for McCoy, gave him a five-year contract after making the deal and haven’t been shy about their plans to feature McCoy heavily in their offense this season. How heavily? According to fellow Bills back Fred Jackson, it will be in the neighborhood of 300 carries.

“I don’t know exactly what my role is going to be,” Jackson said on WGR 550. “They say that they want Shady [McCoy] to get 300-plus carries next year. So that’s a guy you’re feeding the ball all the time. So I’ll be ready when my number is called.”

If McCoy does get the ball that often, it won’t leave much work for Jackson in 2015. The veteran says he’ll do “whatever I can to help” the team win games, however, and that he’s never felt the kind of excitement for a season that exists in Buffalo right now.
