T.J. Yeldon expected to be the starter in Jacksonville

Last year, the Jaguars signed running back Toby Gerhart to a three-year, $10.5 million contract. They moved Denard Robinson from “offensive weapon” to running back. And they drafted running back Storm Johnson.

This year, none of those players will be the Jaguars’ starting running back.

Instead, rookie second-round draft pick T.J. Yeldon has been impressive in Organized Team Activities and is expected to be the starter as a rookie, the team’s website reports.

Yeldon, who showed a lot of talent early in his college career at Alabama but struggled through an injury-plagued junior season last year, looks like a good runner and receiver early in OTAs.

“He looks really good in short-area change of direction,” Jaguars middle linebacker Paul Posluszny said. “He looks really, really good there. It’s, ‘How does a guy move in space? How athletic is he?’ That’s what stands out. With him, he definitely has it.”

The Jaguars also claimed running back Bernard Pierce off waivers this year, so their running back depth chart is crowded. But by the end of camp, Yeldon is expected to come out on top.
