Linebacker Colin McCarthy’s career with the Titans got off to a promising start when he made seven starts as a rookie and seven more to open the 2012 season, but injuries knocked things off course from there.

They also appear to have taken a toll on McCarthy’s desire to continue playing. McCarthy took to Twitter with a post featuring photos of him as a high school player, Miami Hurricane and Titan while saying thanks to those who supported him during his career.

“Truly blessed to have played the game as long as I have!! To my family, friends, teammates and fans, Thank You!!”

In addition to that message, McCarthy confirmed with Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald that he was retiring.

A concussion knocked McCarthy out of the lineup in 2012 and shoulder surgery caused him to miss all of last season, leaving the 2011 fourth-rounder with 36 NFL games to show for his time in the league. He had 161 tackles, three interceptions and three forced fumbles in those appearances.
