The Chargers and defensive end Corey Liuget have been working on a new contract, and it appears that their work is almost done.

Liuget confirmed to Michael Gehlken ‏of the San Diego Union-Tribune that a new contract is imminent.

“Hopefully it gets done within the next couple days or week,” Liuget said.

Liuget was the Chargers’ first-round draft pick in 2011 and is heading into the final season of his rookie contract. Last year he started all 16 games and had 4.5 sacks, two pass deflections and two forced fumbles. The Chargers see him as a building block in their defense for years to come.
