Some players are more attached to numbers than others.

And 21 didn’t have much meaning for Giants cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, so when he found out it did have a significant one for rookie safety Landon Collins, he was happy to give it up.

Via Jordan Raanan of NJ.com, Collins told Rodgers-Cromartie he wanted to wear 21 in honor of the late Sean Taylor, and that was all the veteran corner needed to hear.

“I asked for it and gave him my reasoning behind it,” Collins said. “He doesn’t really care for numbers.”

Other players have chiseled cars, vacations or cash from new teammates who want a particular number. But Collins seemed taken aback that Rodgers-Cromartie didn’t ask for anything in exchange.

“He’s got that big contract,” Collins said. “But I didn’t know what to expect asking him for the number.”

Rodgers-Cromartie clearly isn’t superstitious, as his new No. 41 is the fifth jersey number of his career. But the next player angling for a switch will certainly use his disregard as a negotiating ploy.
