Jim Tomsula won’t be joining social media, which is a shame, really

Given the rousing success he was on live television, it’s probably not a surprise 49ers coach Jim Tomsula won’t be participating in social media.

I don’t get, personally,” Tomsula said, via Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee. “Talking purely personal here, OK? It just so happens every time I hear about it, it’s not in a good way.”

The latest Twitter/Facebook mishap there was his quarterback making light of the flooding in Houston, for which he quickly apologized.

That’s the kind of stuff Tomsula wants to avoid, and at the rate his players are retiring, he can probably be justified for wanting to minimize distractions.

“All that stuff, that was a mistake,” Tomsula said of Kaepernick. “He didn’t have all the facts. Wasn’t sure where it was. Saw a picture and apologized. Owned it. Our big deal is, own it and fix it. . . .

“To me, that’s what you can’t do on social media. If you misspeak — and God knows as much as I misspeak, I’d be a disaster on that stuff.”

While the unvarnished thoughts of Tomsula would make for a fascinating follow, it doesn’t sound like we’ll enjoy them anytime soon.

But we’ll always have Joe Staley singing the Jimmy Tomsula song. And that might be special enough to carry us through.
