Texans and Buccaneers joining the trend of calling minicamp early

Maybe it’s the heat, maybe it’s just a reward.

But the trend of calling off minicamp practices is spreading.

The Patriots had previously canceled their final day of minicamp, and now other teams are following suit. Per multiple reports, both the Buccaneers and Texans have called off practice today, closing down for business until training camps open.

Other teams are shortening today’s work or moving it up earlier in the day (as in Charlotte, where the Panthers were hot under the collar yesterday).

Teams get less time than ever under this CBA to work with their players in the offseason. And that makes it interesting that many of them decide they don’t even need it all.

But while coaches will retire to their boats and lakehouses for the next month and a half, it’s also time to worry about what their players are doing, as idle time is often one of their biggest challenges.
