Cornerback Antoine Cason hasn’t signed with any team as a free agent this offseason and his status won’t change at any point in the future.

Cason posted a picture of his heavily bandaged right foot on Instagram on Tuesday without a specific explanation of the injury that put him in that state. He did have surgery, though, and the combination will keep him out of action for the entire 2015 season.

“Had surgery this morning to fix an ongoing problem,” Cason wrote. “Due to the surgery I will miss the 2015 season ... Tough decision but it was one that needed to be made and I am home and well! I’ve played 21 straight seasons in my life and this will be the first season I miss. I appreciate everyone who has supported me to this point in my life and career, thank you ... and this too shall pass!”

Cason opened last season with the Panthers and started 11 games before getting cut due to poor play. The Ravens picked him up amid their own issues at cornerback and Cason played two games with Baltimore. Cason has also played for the Chargers and Cardinals since entering the league as a 2008 first-round pick and has 16 interceptions in 110 career games.
