Derek Carr: Workouts with receivers a great “refresher course”

Raiders wide receiver Rod Streater recently said that he thinks 2015 will be an “explosive year” for the team’s passing game and many of the players who will be responsible for proving him correct were in Bakersfield, California over the weekend to work toward that result.

Quarterback Derek Carr organized the workouts, saying that the offseason is when “you really become a team.” Carr and his older brother David threw to Streater, Michael Crabtree, Andre Holmes, Mychal Rivera, Kenbrell Thompkins and others for two days this weekend and Carr said that the work provided a necessary pre-camp review of the work they’ve done so far this offseason.

“It was a great refresher for everyone, and the timing couldn’t have been better,” Carr said, via CSNBayArea.com. “It was two weeks before camp and just far enough away from the last minicamp for guys to find it useful. It was a refresher course that should really help the start of training camp itself. This way, the mistakes won’t happen on day No. 1. We already fixed that stuff.”

Carr missed some time during offseason work while resting a finger injury so the workout also allowed him to catch up on time with the players who will be catching his passes this season. That group will also include rookie Amari Cooper, who wasn’t at the workouts, but it sounds like he and Carr have already been connecting during their brief time together.
