One of the longshots to make the Dolphins roster won’t be taking a shot at all.

The Dolphins just announced that tackle Mickey Baucus will retire from the NFL, ending his career before it began.

Baucus was signed as an undrafted rookie, after a four-year starting career at Arizona. The Dolphins didn’t elaborate on the reason for his decision.

That leaves them with an open roster spot, and they’re one of the teams that have been linked to veteran guard Evan Mathis.

The retirement of a rookie doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with Mathis, but the boss does like these stories to be a certain length.
