It wasn’t quite a Neil Armstrong moment.
Immediately after donning the gold jacket signifying entry into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Thursday night, former NFL G.M. Ron Wolf was congratulated by Commissioner Roger Goodell. And Wolf had a message for Goodell, as captured by the NFL Network microphones.
“Way to go on that Brady thing,” Wolf said.
Goodell reacted with a burst of laughter that carried with it the relief of a rough week of watching the league’s dirty laundry scrutinized by media and fans, given the release of the 456-page transcript that showed a little too much of the game’s underbelly.
There’s a chance (albeit slim) that Wolf was being sarcastic. But that’s probably not the case. At a time when Tone Deafness has become somewhat of the norm, anyone who has arrived in Canton should consider behaving as when in Rome.
