Jason Pierre-Paul has given up his vow of silence of late, contacting Giants General Manager Jerry Reese and his position coach Robert Nunn to re-open the lines of communication that were closed immediately after Pierre-Paul was injured in a fireworks accident on July 4.

Pierre-Paul’s reconciliation tour has moved on to head coach Tom Coughlin. Coughlin said Friday that he had a feeling that a call from Pierre-Paul would be coming and that he’d ask Pierre-Paul why he wasn’t at training camp. On Saturday, Coughlin revealed that his crystal ball was correct and shared an answer to his question that didn’t come as much of a surprise given Pierre-Paul’s contractual status.

“Do I know anything more than I did before, no,” Coughlin said, via NJ.com. “He’s looking forward to coming, he’s anxious to be here. But he’s not going to come until he feels like he is ready to play. It could be any amount of time; I’m not even going to speculate. ... He wishes he was here, too.”

Pierre-Paul has not signed his $14.8 million franchise tag, in part because he’d like to pass a physical that allows him to avoid the non-football injury list and the possibility that the Giants wouldn’t pay him while on the list. Pierre-Paul can’t sign a long-term deal, the two sides can negotiate a revised deal for the 2015 season that could eliminate that concern and get him back into the fold.
