The Bills kicked the tires on several veteran defensive players on Monday and wound up signing one of them to bolster their depth after injuries thinned the ranks of front seven players.

Adam Caplan of ESPN had the first report that the Bills will sign linebacker Quentin Groves and others have since reported the same. Linebacker Marcus Benard and defensive lineman Red Bryant also worked out for the team.

Groves had 18 tackles and a sack in 16 appearances for the Titans last season and he’ll move into the mix of players vying for snaps opened up by the losses of Jarius Wynn and Ty Powell in the last few days. Tennessee was Groves’s fifth stop in the NFL as the 2008 second-round pick of the Jaguars has had better luck finding new jobs than holding onto his old ones.

One of those past stops was with the Browns, who continue practicing with the Bills on Tuesday before the two teams face off in a preseason game on Thursday night.
