Agent: Kam Chancellor won’t report unless contract addressed

Kam Chancellor’s holdout from training camp reached its 20th day on Wednesday with no apparent resolution in sight.

Chancellor has stayed away in hopes of getting a better contract from the Seahawks. Meanwhile, the Seahawks appear extremely unwilling to address a contract that still has three years remaining.

Chancellor can be fined $30,000 a day and the Seahawks can now recoup 25 percent of his prorated signing bonus for this season. He’s now racked up $600,000 in daily fines and $250,000 can be recovered from his signing bonus, bringing the total amount to $850,000. However, all fines are at the team’s discretion and could be waived if Chancellor reports to camp.

Chancellor is scheduled to make $4,550,000 this season from the Seahawks this season.

Chancellor’s agent, Alvin Keels, told ESPN’s Josina Anderson that his client will not be showing up until something changes with the contract.

Nothing has changed,” Keels said. “He will not report without his contract being addressed this season. The team and I have been in contact, but we haven’t been able to agree on any compromise.”

Of course, an agent isn’t going to say, “Yeah, he’s going to show up. We’re just to ride this out as long as possible.” There is no leverage in a statement like that.

However, the Seahawks have their heels dug in as well and don’t appear willing to budge.

“Our conversations continue,” head coach Pete Carroll said Monday. “Nothing has changed but we’re in communication regularly.”

Defensive end Michael Bennett is frustrated with his contract and is actually in camp practicing with the team every day. If Chancellor gets a newly adjusted deal while sitting at home, it’s probably going to make Bennett extremely unhappy.

At this stage, it seems like nothing is going to change until the preseason comes to a close and the threat of missing regular-season game checks comes into play.
