The Jets returned to their old practice field at Hofstra on Sunday night for a family night practice in front of 11,000 fans that got to see something that hasn’t been seen at the team’s Florham Park facility recently.

Defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson was on the field going through practice after missing almost all of this summer’s work because of a hamstring injury. Wilkerson got some work in team drills in addition to work with the defensive linemen and coach Todd Bowles said that Wilkerson was “moving pretty good” in his return to the field. Now they hope that his hamstring responds well enough to allow him to play against the Giants in this week’s dress rehearsal for the regular season.

“I hope so, but my hamstring, got to make sure it feels good throughout the week,” Wilkerson said, via the New York Daily News. “Felt good today, that’s why I got some reps with the team. Hopefully I continue to progress through the week.”

With Sheldon Richardson working with the second team ahead of his four-game suspension to start the year, the Jets started rookie Leonard Williams and Stephen Bowen against the Falcons last Friday. Williams was disruptive up front, but the first team has missed Wilkerson’s presence while allowing three touchdowns in three tries by opposing offenses.
