Redskins, Trent Williams agree to big-money extension

Maybe the timing is coincidental, or maybe the Redskins just needed to change the conversation away from the mess they have at quarterback. Either way, the team has made Trent Williams the highest-paid offensive tackle ever.

Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Williams and the Redskins have agreed to a five-year, $66 million contract that includes more than $43 million in guarantees and $32 million at signing.

That’s a lot of money.

Williams, 27, has been to three straight Pro Bowls and his preseence at left tackle gives the Redskins one thing they don’t need to worry about amidst another mess of injuries and miscommunication.

Good news! Definitely the type of player the Skins need to continue to build around.

Yep, that Team needed some good news. I hope that he holds up his end. Yepper Depper!

That certainly is a lot of money; money they may need to re-sign the franchise quarterback. And that is so very clearly not RGIII at this point. Drew Brees is the best example of a top 10 QB not drafted by the team he is currently with and he had the shoulder; the Colts where re-building and Peyton didn’t need to go through that. After those two who is the next top QB not with the team that drafted them? Carson Palmer? But having a good left tackle is nice. Sorry to go so far off the story but as a member of the Redskin fan base the whole last 3 or 20 years are just…bewildering.

Good player. Doesn’t deserve more than Joe Thomas though. Anyone that says otherwise can’t be taken seriously.

Great signing. As a Dallas fan i love it. Twice the guarantee as Tyron for half the years.

  6. surefooted1 says: Aug 29, 2015 4:29 PM

Wow, they overpaid. It’s like they paid the price he may have gotten in FA while bidding against 10 other teams.

Now , if only the can get a QB !

I don’t understand how a guy who has given up 15.5 sacks the past two season’s (not to mention 8 penalties last year alone) is a three-time Pro Bowl player and the highest paid offensive linemen in football.

    He’s a bad dude… Good move Washington.

with Snyder as your owner, don’t get your hopes up too high

  11. antikytheraeagles says: Aug 29, 2015 4:42 PM

They said “we will make you the highest paid OT ever, just please keep this QB alive, even if you hate him.”

    He probably already regrets signing.

  12. mungman69 says: Aug 29, 2015 4:44 PM

Trent might just be the best (beast) left tackle ever BUT not by much.
It’s still goin to be Philly & Dallas in the NFC East. Washington, not so much.

  13. mungman69 says: Aug 29, 2015 4:46 PM

And it’ll be very interesting to see how them Large Guys do with the greatest wide out EVER!

  14. dallassux says: Aug 29, 2015 4:49 PM

Well at least it deflects attention from the dumpster fire that is the rest of the team.

I’d insist on extra money for wearing those yellow pants.

  16. imeasilyoffended says: Aug 29, 2015 5:00 PM

They should have given the big man that much money when he slapped Richard Sherman for running his mouth to him. Good signing, now if they can shore up the rest of the O-lime to protect Kirk, or whoever is going to be the QB in the future.

Great move. This is how smart teams build. By rewarding players they draft who produce with contract extensions rather than chasing free agents, not over bidding for veteran free agents, and drafting well. With our new GM we’ve been following that blue print and there is hope for the future.

Good! He’s the best OT in football.

    @berniesmullet

Thomas is the best LT in the NFL, no debating it. And if he signed an extension today instead of in 2011 then he would be the highest paid LT. But he hasn’t, yet.

Jason Peters must be feeling disrespected about now.

  21. sidepull says: Aug 29, 2015 6:19 PM

    Greenbacks for the Silverback. HTTR

  22. whenwilliteverend says: Aug 29, 2015 6:21 PM

Let’s see…it’s a five-year contract. Then that means if he’s anything like Kam Chancellor he’ll be holding out for a new contract in two years.

  23. rg3andthensome says: Aug 29, 2015 6:30 PM

    Love this guy.

Total animal from his first series at LT when he drove the guy out of bounds– literally.

    To the

Punch from out of no where on Richard….Literally….To be that big and that fast? BEASTMODE

  24. skins1970 says: Aug 29, 2015 6:47 PM

Great job Scot in getting Trent Williams signed before he got in FA. So glad that we finally have a real GM.

  25. charger383 says: Aug 29, 2015 11:41 PM

    need some more HOGS

  26. cafetero1075 says: Aug 30, 2015 9:48 AM

The way RG3 takes hits, I am surprised anybody got paid on that line.
