Phil Taylor visits Steelers

On Tuesday, the Browns gave defensive tackle Phil Taylor $5.477 million to not play for the Browns. The Steelers may now be paying Taylor even more to not play for the Browns.

Per a league source, Taylor visited the Steelers on Wednesday.

It was only a visit, but it could lead to something more, given that the Steelers could use any help they can get on defense.

A first-round pick in 2011, Taylor asked to be released by the Browns after Danny Shelton emerged as a starter. The Browns made no request that Taylor reduce the money he’s owed or agree to provide any offset in exchange for his freedom.

Go for it, Steelers. When he is healthy and motivated, Taylor can be a beast. If he checks out medically, he would be a huge upgrade depth-wise, and it sounds like he wants to play and prove the Browns wrong.

Steelers need all the help they can get on defense.

He wouldn’t last a whole year. He’s good when he’s healthy, but hasn’t finished out a whole year, since being drafted.

He has 4 years experience. That means he isn’t subject to the waiver process.

He might be good, but Steelers won’t maximize it… Look at what they did with the last Cleveland cast-off, Bruce Arians.

The Browns had a fairly stout defense, the offense is what held them back. This guy can help out a defense that ha trouble staying healthy on the d line

Now he will wear the Black and Gold uniform and sack the Browns starting QB with the starting letter “M” twice a year.

First off, they reached an injury settlement after Taylor asked to be cut. The Browns did not pay him the full $5.5MM.

Second, the guys had two major knee procedures during last season (ie: within 17 weeks). He came back from one procedure and promptly injured his knee again in the Thursday night game at Cincy (his best game as a Brown, ironically).

Hope Taylor can stay healthy, but it’s hard for a 340-pound man to get his knees back after so many surgeries. Those knees are carrying a lotta weight. We shall see.

I wonder how many Browns scouts have their jobs after the past 5 years???

  27. erock0129 says: Sep 3, 2015 8:55 AM

I like big Phil, he is injured a lot, and given they drafted Shelton, he became expendable. Good player, I wish him well…

Steelers fans, when Taylor played for the Browns: “Pssshh… That guy sucks.”

Steelers fans when Taylor may be dealt to their team: “That guy is a beast!”
