Exactly two players from veteran combine made it this weekend

The NFL ginned up a little television inventory this offseason, and found a couple of players along the way.

According to Field Yates of ESPN, two players from this year’s veteran combine made 53-man rosters this weekend — Lions linebacker Brandon Copeland and Cardinals TE Ifeanyi Momah.

Of course, notably missing from any roster, NFL or CFL, was Michael Sam, the star of the show. The man attempting to be the league’s first openly gay play shuttled between his workout in Phoenix and his Dancing with the Stars training, a weekend full of reality TV.

And that’s mostly what the veteran combine was, a chance for the NFL Network to otherwise fill hours with stuff that looked like football.

Having been there for the event at the Cardinals facility the day before the owners meeting, you could say most NFL scouts were there grudgingly, watching a bunch of has-beens or never-weres run drills poorly and slowly. There were a handful of decent stories, including guys such as former first-rounder Adam Carriker coming back from multiple injuries (which earned him a tryout with the Falcons but never an invite to camp).

But to say there wasn’t exactly a lot of bang for the personnel buck is an understatement, as this weekend’s moves illustrate.
