The Cardinals brought tight end Joseph Fauria in for a visit on Wednesday after learning that they’ll be without Ifeanyi Momah because of a torn meniscus in his knee.

It looks like Fauria will be staying around for a while. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Cardinals will sign Fauria to the 53-man roster.

Fauria’s height made him a frequent red zone target for the Lions in 2013 and seven of his 16 catches were for touchdowns. Injuries limited him to seven games, six catches and one touchdown last season and Detroit dropped him from the roster after trading for Tim Wright this summer. Fauria hasn’t been known for his blocking, which could limit his playing time in Bruce Arians’s offense.

“The tight end in our offense is a blocker first and a pass-catcher second, and if you can do both, that is nice,” Arians said, via the Arizona Republic.

Fauria’s arrival would give the Cardinals another healthy body at tight end, where Jermaine Gresham and Troy Niklas have been battling injuries. Gresham was a full participant in practice while Niklas was limited on Wednesday, raising hopes that at least one will be in the lineup with Darren Fells come Sunday.
