Investigation into JPP medical records leak “ongoing”

Philadelphia Eagles v New York Giants

Jeff Zelevansky

More than two months after someone leaked to ESPN official medical records indicating that Jason Pierre-Paul had a finger amputated (along with a portion of some other guy’s medical record, too) the effort to find the culprit continues.

Via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, a spokesman for Jackson Health System said the investigation into the leak is “ongoing.”

“Concluding this investigation remains a top priority for the organization,” the spokesman said.

That “top priority” has lasted more than two months. Which means it would take about a decade if it wasn’t a top priority.

Although the federal HIPAA law doesn’t create the ability for patients to file a lawsuit, Florida law gives Pierre-Paul separate rights. And Pierre-Paul still has time to pursue a civil action, if he decides to do it.
