Bengals cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones held court during the team’s open media locker room period Wednesday, revealing that the NFL has fined him $35,000 for slamming the head of Raiders wide receiver Amari Cooper into his helmet last Sunday and saying he believes “the story is magnified because it’s me.”
Perhaps most interesting from what’s trickled out via Twitter of what Jones said is this: “I can’t promise it won’t happen again.”
Geoff Hobson on Bengals.com tweeted that Jones talked to reporters for 13 minutes and said, among other things, “I’m not going to change the way I play.”
Jones plans to appeal, and a potential conversation between he and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell would not be their first. But regardless of whether a player’s history or reputation may factor into the NFL’s discipline system, it’s a safe bet that someone from the NFL will tell Jones that he should promise this type of incident won’t happen again.
Citing “full context” of what Jones said, Jeremy Rauch of FOX 19 in Cincinnati tweeted that Jones said he’s “learned from his actions” but wouldn’t talk about what led him to slam Cooper’s head into his helmet.
