Panthers center Ryan Kalil might have played more snaps than they were hoping last week, but the Panthers have an experienced reserve now.
The team announced they had brought back veteran center Fernando Velasco, and placed backup tackle Nate Chandler on injured reserve.
They were hoping to limit Kalil’s work coming off a preseason knee problem, but he played every snap last week against the Jaguars.
Velasco started seven games for the Panthers last year, and was in camp with the Titans this year but was released on Aug. 30. He played with the Titans previously (2008-12) and did a year with the Steelers as well.
With Chandler out for the year and rookie tackle Daryl Williams expected to miss a month with an MCL sprain, the Panthers are thin at tackle, and will need guard Amini Silatolu to stand in as the third behind starters Michael Oher and Mike Remmers.
