The Cowboys were deep enough and talented on the offensive line that highly touted rookie La’el Collins didn’t even get a uniform last week.

That could change, as starting guard Ronald Leary is listed as doubtful this week with a groin strain.

I’m extremely excited,” Collins said, via Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I can’t wait. This weekend is going to be huge, so I look forward to it. This team looks forward to it. I just want to help and contribute as best as I can.”

Collins would have likely been a first-round pick if his name hadn’t been connected with a murder investigation in Louisiana, though he was never named as a suspect or charged. So the Cowboys felt like they got a bargain in signing him to a three-year, $1.7 million deal as an undrafted free agent.

Collins worked at both guard spots and right tackle during the preseason, but has concentrated on guard since training camp. The Cowboys used veteran backup Mackenzy Bernadeau in Leary’s absence last week against the Giants.

The Cowboys have already declared wide receiver Dez Bryant (foot) and defensive end Randy Gregory (ankle) out, while tight end James Hanna (knee) is questionable.
