Bills piling up penalties

The Bills’ bid to set a world record for crowd noise may fall short, but they may have a chance for the largest crowd to utter the same phrase at the same time.

With the Bills piling up penalties at a rapid rate in their game against the Patriots, the Bills fans at Ralph Wilson Stadium might be able to coordinate their feelings about the officials in a creative manner. If the crowd at Guinness isn’t put off by foul language, it could all work out.

Their anger could also be directed at the home team. Some of the 12 penalties that they’ve picked up halfway through the third quarter have been questionable, but way too many of them have been self-inflicted wounds. That includes a 15-yard unsportsmanlike call picked up by the team’s bench to help kill a third quarter drive.

The Bills seemed to be angry about an offensive pass interference call against Sammy Watkins earlier in the drive, but it’s not much of an excuse to cause yourself more harm while trying to mount a comeback from 27-13 down. Safety Aaron Williams has picked up two 15-yarders that were for extracurricular activities as well and all of those errors have helped put the Bills in position for a loss.

UPDATE 3:27 p.m. ET: It’s now 34-13 Patriots after Julian Edelman’s second touchdown of the day. The Bills committed a defensive holding penalty on the drive, but were otherwise unflagged.
