Chargers bring up safety with Jahleel Addae doubtful

The Chargers listed safety Jahleel Addae as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Bengals because of an ankle injury and they added a player at the position on Saturday to shore up their depth.

Adrian Phillips has been promoted from the practice squad. It’s not the first time that Phillips has gotten that call from the Chargers before a game. He hopped between the active roster and practice squad several times last season, ultimately playing in three games and making one tackle.

Jimmy Wilson is expected to start at safety in place of Addae. One thing that Wilson and Eric Weddle will have to do on Sunday is keep Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert from having the kind of impact that he had in last Sunday’s victory over the Raiders.

Wide receiver Tyrell Williams was waived to make room for Phillips on the 53-man roster.
