Dez Bryant takes issue with report of 10-12 week absence

0802 Cowboys 07

AP

No one knows how long Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant will be out following surgery to repair a broken bone in his foot. We now know how Bryant feels about the new report that he’ll miss 10-12 weeks.

“Whenever the media can’t talk to me,” Dez said. “Reports get made like this..10 to 12 weeks... we will just see how long I’m out lol .. Go cowboys!!”

On Sunday morning, however, former Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin said that Bryant said earlier in the week via text that he’s getting ready for the playoff run, and Irvin said he interpreted that as meaning Bryant will be out longer than 4-6 weeks. But the Cowboys and Bryant continue to insist that 4-6 weeks is the target.

Ultimately, the two factors that will determine Bryant’s absence are the speed with which he heals and the team’s willingness to risk re-injury. As a practical matter, the Cowboys will be more willing to wait on Dez if they’re doing really well without him. If, in turn, they struggle at some point between now and the end of October, they may be more inclined to roll the dice on the possibility that he’ll break the bone again.
