Report: Jay Cutler to miss at least two weeks

Getty Images

On Monday, Bears coach John Fox said that quarterback Jay Cutler’s hamstring strain was “not really severe,” but it may be severe enough to keep Cutler out of the lineup for multiple weeks.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Cutler will miss at least two weeks as a result of the injury, which happened when he was trying to tackle Cardinals safety Tony Jefferson after throwing an interception on Sunday. The Bears declined comment on Schefter’s report.

Jimmy Clausen wrapped up the game at quarterback and will move into the starting job if Cutler is indeed sidelined. He started one game late last season after former coach Marc Trestman benched Cutler, but handed the job back after a concussion forced him out of the lineup. He also started 10 games for the Panthers as a rookie when John Fox was the coach in Carolina and Clausen’s performance helped assure it wound up as Fox’s final season with the team.

The Bears don’t have a third quarterback on the 53-man roster, which will likely lead to David Fales’s elevation from the practice squad.

The Seahawks might win this one 84-0.

I dont blame him for not coming to the clink this sumday, my seahawks are struggling though, he might get cut if he plays the worse game of his life up here lol

Cutler doesn’t play defense for the millionth time…

I hope this means we will see Fales out there, probably not though.

Packers, Cards, Seahawks. Best three teams in the NFC to start the season? No wonder Cutler is tapping out.

I forgot Clausen and Fox were together before. Almost as bad as the Dan Reeves-Tommy Maddox duo.

I wonder if the phone in New England is ringing? Some of these teams must be interested in Jimmy Garoppolo. I’m not being funny here. I don’t believe they would ever do it, but like they say, “everything’s negotiable.” Romo, Brees, Stafford and now Cutler. Who’s next?

  11. vicnocal says: Sep 21, 2015 6:07 PM

The Bears are a bad team as it is, it doesn’t help when their starting players can’t even get on the field – Alshon, Kevin White, Cutler, Jay Ratliff. You’ve got Eddie Royal as a #1 WR out there for gods sake, when the plan was for him to be the #3.

I am the smartest kid on my short bus ride to school. That said, I can’t figure out how Cutler being out translates to the Seahawks scoring 84 points. The Bears zero I understand.

    You mean the 0-2 Seahawks?
Please don’t put PED users in the same league with clean teams like the Cards and Pack.

Did you miss the part where the Bears defense/special teams let up 41 points? They made Palmer look like Brady. Graham is going to have 3tds next week with McClellin trying to cover him.

    —————————————————————

Cutler does play defense…every time he throws a pick or coughs it up. This is the second time he’s been hurt trying to tackle a pick 6.

You think he would try and throw less INT’s just so he could stay healthy.

  23. schvoogiebumper says: Sep 21, 2015 6:34 PM

Unless the Bears can have 2 ‘byes’ for the next two weeks…they’re screwed.

  24. beerbratscheese says: Sep 21, 2015 6:43 PM

So, several NFL caliber QBs got injured this week…and so did Jay Cutler.

  25. bassplucker says: Sep 21, 2015 6:52 PM

Oh boy. Jay Cutler has frustrated me as much as he has anyone else but watching Jimmy Clausen against the the Cardinals was terrifying.

  26. hurricaneditka25 says: Sep 21, 2015 6:53 PM

I am no Cutler apologist, but he looked good in week 1. And he was doing a fine job against the Cards, right up to that interception that led to the “injury”. To all the people out there wanting to hang him for every woe that has plagued the Bears thus far, how many players on the offense are missing right now? Last time I checked, Eddie Royal wasn’t picked up to be our #1 receiver. And how long has Cutler been playing defense? Well, all of you armchair coaches out there who thought Clausen would be a better starter have now got your wish. When was the last time we started 0-4?

  27. brenenostler says: Sep 21, 2015 6:56 PM

Cutler should have to start doing tackling/defensive drills if he’s gonna keep making his team suffer with turnovers

  28. coltzfan166 says: Sep 21, 2015 6:57 PM

Bears might actually win a game

  29. jimmysee says: Sep 21, 2015 7:06 PM

  30. briggsisbrokeagain says: Sep 21, 2015 7:13 PM

    Jimmy Claussen = Rusty Lisch
In a long line of horrible bear quarterbacks, Claussen is right up there with the worst. Play Fales, I already know JC can’t do this.

  31. beardownfromcali says: Sep 21, 2015 7:19 PM

3 and Outs don’t help the defense!

  32. liquidchaoss says: Sep 21, 2015 7:23 PM

Cutler wasnt hurt, he just didnt want anything to do with the Cardinals after that pick 6. He got trolled hard last year, he tapped out early on this one.

  33. catalytictendencies says: Sep 21, 2015 7:49 PM

If fans in Chicago want Cutler gone so badly they should petition for a trade with Houston for Mallet or Hoyer. Then they will know for sure what it feels like to have your QB ruin all your hopes of winning games.

I am hoping that the Bears do not join the Lions with an 0 and 16 record. BTW….since Kevin White will not play this year, he is a wasted draft choice….again!!!

    It’s week 2 you m0m0, not week 14 and the Bears still don’t have a win…

Kevin White isn’t ruled out for the whole(you’re wrong) and a players waste of draft pick isn’t determined by one season(wrong again.)

You have absolutely no sense what so ever.

  41. rextraordinaire says: Sep 22, 2015 12:10 AM

Remember, Bears fans when back in 2011 Cutler got hurt and some of you were like “herp derp blessing in disguise its Caleb Hanie time” Then after 2 weeks you all thought “Y’know, maybe Cutler isn’t as horrible of a QB as I thought”

Well, you’re about to remember it again. Is Cutler great? No. Is he good? Sometimes, but he’s a helluva lot better than Jimmy Clausen.

But hey Jay, I hear Houston is nice around this time next year

  42. thevza says: Sep 22, 2015 1:55 AM

It’s the curse of Brandon Marshall! First he put a hex on all of the Bears top receivers who fell to injury during the preseason. Now he focused his powers on his ex-bro Cutler.
Matt Forte better hope he stayed on Marshall’s good side…

  43. malek773 says: Sep 22, 2015 1:03 PM

So much Cutler hate. He was actually playing well in the last game. Its not his fault that special teams gave the cardinals 7 points off the bat and that the defense couldn’t stop carson palmer from looking like joe montana. He threw a pick on a bad read to Bennet with pressure in his face. Luck threw 3 yesterday and fumbled once. QBs with bad defenses make mistakes when they are forced to have to keep trying to score. Clausen is awful. Anyone expecting him to do anything good is mistaken. Cutler is the best option at QB for this team. Chicago is so unfair to QBs. All the hate he’s getting is going back to last year when he had Marc Trestman calling 50 pass plays a game. Jay isnt as bad as the fans and media make him out to be. He’s not the best either but he’s good enough. The guy never had a fair shake in Chicago from the start. Starts off with no offensive weapons and a good defense then goes to a team with great offensive weapons terrible coaching and no defense. Now he’s got coaching, but a bad defense. I think he’ll end up doing well this year but he’ll be out of Chicago after the season. The city and media have given up on him. I just want everyone to remember what it was like having Cutler when we start bringing back this eras version of Kordell Stewart, Caleb Haine, Chad Hutchinson, Chris Chanlder, etc etc…
