Wide receiver Preston Parker piled up dropped passes in the first two weeks of the regular season and he’s been dropped by the Giants as a result.

The team announced Tuesday that they have released the veteran wideout. Defensive tackle Kenrick Ellis, who spent the offseason with the team, has been re-signed to take his place on the roster.

Parker’s five dropped passes have been part of the sea of woes that have helped the Giants to losses against the Cowboys and Falcons and keeping him over James Jones, who has produced for the Packers, has not reflected well on the Giants’ personnel department.

Thursday’s game against Washington is probably too soon for his return, but releasing Parker may be a sign that the Giants expect to have Victor Cruz back from a calf injury in the near future. While Parker certainly earned his ticket off the roster, the Giants have only four healthy wideouts right now so they’d be thin at the position if Cruz, who won’t practice Tuesday, remains out for several more weeks.
