All of the attention being paid to injured Saints in New Orleans this week has been focused on quarterback Drew Brees, but he isn’t the only player at risk of missing this Sunday’s game against the Panthers.

The Saints have been practicing without wide receiver Brandin Cooks for the last two days as he recovers from an ankle injury. Cooks wouldn’t say when he hurt the ankle, but he did say that he expects to be on the field against Carolina.

“Very confident,” Cooks said, via the New Orleans Times-Picayune. “I’ll be out there.”

Cooks’s confidence extends to the man who could be taking snaps in place of Brees if Brees’s shoulder doesn’t cooperate. Cooks said that Luke McCown “can throw the ball well” and that the prospect of his presence in the lineup isn’t a worry for him or anyone else on the team.

Brees was limited in Thursday’s practice and coach Sean Payton said that Brees will have to throw at some point before Sunday if he’s going to get the start in Week Three.
