The Falcons are still waiting to see something for the money they spent on Brooks Reed, but they got one step closer Thursday.

According to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the linebacker returned to the practice field Thursday, about three weeks after groin surgery.

Falcons coach Dan Quinn wasn’t ready to speculate on when Reed might return to game action.

“I’d rather go through today and tomorrow and take a better look,” Quinn said. “The main thing is that he’s way ahead of schedule in terms of the effort to come back. He put tons into it to get ready. For him, being back out, we’ll get him in a limited fashion today, will be huge. It’s a good statement about how hard he worked to get back.”

Reed, signed to a five-year, $22 million contract this offseason, played just 17 snaps in two preseason games before deciding to undergo surgery to correct a persistent problem. He said it was unrelated to another groin issue which kept him out much of the offseason work.

The Falcons were still without running back Tevin Coleman (fractured rib) and returner Devin Hester (turf toe) in practice today.
