Jason Witten says he’s “confident” he’ll be ready to go Sunday

Jason Witten has played through pain before, so it’s no surprise he’s declaring himself fit despite a pair of sprained ankles and a sprained knee.

So even though some have suggested he’s “not a lock” to play this week against the Falcons, Witten had other ideas.

I’m confident,’' Witten said after practice, via David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. “I felt good out there.’'

Witten has played in 189 straight games, the longest active streak by a non-kicker or specialist, and that has earned him his tough-guy credentials.

“Talk about a tough dude,’' quarterback Brandon Weeden said. “I heard he couldn’t even walk in here on Monday and he’s doing pretty good.’'

Witten was limited in practice yesterday, but coach Jason Garrett said that didn’t matter as much with a player of Witten’s experience.

“Well, his history matters,’' Garrett said. “You’re certainly more trusting of a guy like that because he’s shown you many times in the past that he’s going to be there. He has a great credibility with us.

“Track record matters. He’s demonstrated a lot through his career that he can get himself ready to play when things don’t always look so good for him early on in the week. But we have to be ready with a lot of different alternatives.”

Of course, having them ready is one thing, but Witten has shown time and again they don’t really need them. He only missed three snaps of last week’s game, and sounds like he doesn’t plan on taking many off this week.
