Rams cut Isaiah Pead

Pead

The Rams gave running back Todd Gurley his first NFL action in last Sunday’s loss to the Steelers and it appears his debut made another member of the backfield expendable.

The team announced Tuesday that running back Isaiah Pead has been waived off the 53-man roster. Pead’s departure leaves the Rams with Gurley, Tre Mason, Benny Cunningham and Chase Reynolds at running back.

Pead was a 2012 second-round pick in St. Louis and played in 25 games during his first two years with the club. Pead ran just 17 times and caught 14 passes in those appearances and then missed all of last season with a torn ACL.

Cornerback Brandon McGee was promoted from the practice squad to fill Pead’s roster spot and the team also announced that former Saints wide receiver Nick Toon has been added to the practice squad.
