Saints expected to stick with Zach Hocker

The Saints had the unemployed kicker caravan in town on Wednesday, but they’re reportedly letting it leave town without adding Zach Hocker to its roster.

Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports that the team has decided to stick with Hocker despite his miss from 30 yards in the fourth quarter of last Sunday’s game against the Cowboys. The Saints went on to win the game in overtime on a touchdown pass to C.J. Spiller.

Before the kickers tried out, coach Sean Payton talked about the need for better work in the kicking game.

“I think this, and I said this in the morning meeting, the snap hold kick process, all three parts need to be better and so that emphasis this week is going to be pretty strong and, obviously, when you get into a position like we did the other night we have to be able to make that type of field goal, and if not, then someone else will have a chance to,” Payton said, via the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Garafolo reports that Randy Bullock made all of his field goals during the tryout and that Kai Forbath also kicked well, so Hocker probably shouldn’t feel too secure about his spot should he struggle again in Week Five.
