Jerry Jones changes his tune on Greg Hardy

In the aftermath of defensive end Greg Hardy’s tone-deaf comments regarding “guns blazin’” and Gisele Bundchen, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones went into excuse-making mode. But in an interview televised Sunday by CBS, Jones changed his tune.

"[H]is statements of the past week reflected in some peoples mind, a lack of contriteness, a lack of caring,” Jones told Bill Cowher. “We take it seriously. Those are complicated problems. People are saying, ‘Well, you’re bringing Hardy on the team is a way of condoning domestic violence.’ I have a complete sensitivity toward domestic violence. It’s been a real, a real lifetime challenge for him. I know that he needs us. He’s our teammate.”

Of course, that same thing could have been said by the Ravens about Ray Rice. And similar things were indeed said by the Ravens about Ray Rice. Until the elevator video emerged and the Ravens essentially said to Rice, “You may need us and you may be our teammate, but you’ve got to go.”

Hardy’s comments don’t go nearly far enough to get the Cowboys to say the same thing to Hardy, especially since he provides a much-needed skill at a position where the demand exceeds the supply.
