Browns quarterback Josh McCown’s 457 passing yards Sunday broke a franchise record for a regular-season game that had stood since 1981.
McCown is the only player on the current Browns roster who was alive then.
The previous record of 444 was set by Brian Sipe on Oct. 25, 1981. The most productive game of McCown’s career came as he completed 36-of-51 passes, threw two fourth-quarter touchdowns and compiled a 111.3 passer rating.
He became the first Browns player to throw for 300 yards or more in three consecutive games; his 1,154 over that span are also a franchise high and also surpass a record set by Sipe.
Bernie Kosar threw for 489 yards in a playoff win over the Jets on Jan. 3, 1987, but those records are kept separately.
The Browns won in Baltimore for the first since 2007, and that Nov. 18, 2007 win was also their last overtime win before Sunday. They won their first division game of a season for the first time since 2004.
Their 505 yards Sunday were the most in a game since Sept. 2007 against the Bengals.
