Chip Kelly: No college has contacted me or my agent

Eagles coach Chip Kelly knows he’s being discussed as a candidate at USC and at other colleges that have head-coaching vacancies, but he says it’s all just talk among fans and the media.

Asked directly today if any college has contacted him or his agent about a coaching job, Kelly answered, “No.”

Kelly joked that he might be a candidate at to coach the Texas State Armadillos, the fictional team in the movie Necessary Roughness. But then he turned serious and said that he knows the questions will continue to be asked, even though he feels badly for college coaches who have lost their jobs.

“I understand that it’s gonna happen. We’re not successful, we’re not winning, I came from college and I’m gonna go back to college,” Kelly said about the perceptions of his intentions. “I hope some day to be like Coach Coughlin and win enough games where I can stay around long enough where that speculation ends. But I understand you have to ask the question. I answered it the same way a year ago, I answered it the same way my first year. It’s an unfortunate part of the game, and the other unfortunate part is there are people who have lost their jobs. Somebody, a friend of mine in Steve Sarkisian, is dealing with a big issue right now, and I wish him the best.”

Kelly added that the issue hasn’t become a distraction for the Eagles because “Players could care less about it.” As far as Kelly is concerned, all the focus is on Monday night’s game against the Giants.
