Pulled over by police for domestic argument, Johnny Manziel admits to drinking

AP

Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel has shown tremendous maturity and growth this year, but he apparently is still struggling with the medical condition that arose from a series of personal choices regarding the use of alcohol.

According to newsnet5.com, Manziel was pulled over during an argument with his girlfriend, and he admitted to drinking.

The incident happened on Monday, when a witness called police after Manziel used the shoulder to pass the witness’ car at a high rate of speed. The witness said that Manziel and his girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, were arguing. Crowley, according to the witness, was trying to exit the car.

Police later stopped Manziel, and he and Crowley admitted to drinking earlier in the day. Police determined that the couple was not intoxicated.

According to the report, Crowley said Manziel had pushed her head into a window. Police reportedly noticed an abrasion on Crowley’s arm, but they later determined that the abrasion was from Manziel’s attempt to keep her from getting out of the vehicle while it was on the road.

Crowley did not want to press charges. Whether that’s enough to avoid an investigation and/or discipline from the league is a different issue. The Personal Conduct Policy as revised in 2014 disregards the decisions made by the criminal justice system, with the league conducting its own inquiry. The league’s new sensitivity to domestic violence likely means that an investigation will occur, given the allegation that Manziel pushed Crowley’s head into a window.

Apart from any potential discipline from the league is the apparent relapse with alcohol. Earlier this year, Manziel spent 10 weeks in rehab.

I hope he can get the help he needs before it’s too late.

Football should be the last thing on his mind right now.

Why do people stay in relationships like this? There are over a billion people….break up and find someone else! You may miss the perfect person while you are fighting to stay in a bad relationship.

I’m not as concerned about him drinking as the reckelessness with which he was driving his car. He can drink himself into Bolivia for all I care but when he endangers other people it’s a different story.

Bummer. If you’re a few months out of rehab and drinking that soon afterwards, football should be the last thing on your mind.

Well, this is going to blow up online.

It’s sad. One so young, with promise and having issues that could seriously derail him.

This is about more than just his playing career too.

Johnny, you’re still so young. Do what it takes to get yourself right. Trust me, you’ll thank me decades from now.

You don’t want to be 44 yrs old, 52 years old and 61 years old think if only…

Stop. Get help and get yourself right. You’re still young and you still have promise.

Man…. Disappointing to hear that Manziel is drinking again. Completely separate from football, it was actually good to hear that a young man recognized that he has some problems and took it upon himself to try to work on them. There has been encouraging news since he has been out of rehab. I was pulling for the guy. It may be considered selfish, but sometimes one needs to seperate themselves from other people if could put them in a position to make poor decisions. That being said, I am definitely not putting any vlanw on his girlfriend, but being a yoing person who is trying to stay sober is very difficult when you are hanging around with people who are not

This should be interesting, since there is a growing concern that is getting louder and louder about violence towards women all around the nation. When Greg Hardy was free to play again last week, the chorus of domestic abuse and violence towards women peaked again. I see big problems ahead for Johnny Manziel because it hasn’t been very long since his 10 week rehab and he’s back at it again. So what if they just go easy on Manziel, what do you will happen with the chorus and by way I agree 100% with the violence against women and domestic violence issues. Hardy suspension should have stayed at 10 weeks if not out of the league all together. Josh Gordon out for the year because he puffs weed but it’s not so bad if you smack a women around? Give us all a break Mr. Commissioner.. and do something that commiserates with the crime. You touch a women your in deep trouble should be the philosophy from now on, in this league otherwise were watching a bunch of tough guys that are really low life bullies and we are suppose to admire them? For what? Suspend him for the year.

I’m a pretty big drinker and I’d love to say I could quit for a million dollar job but I can’t guarantee it. So I’ll save that narrative. But I will say that it never drives me to domestic violence and I’m not a spoiled brat. Time to face the facts and say this dude will never be able to lead 53 grown men on an NFL field. Which is the main thing I said about him before he hit the league. On a side note, someone needs to strait whoop his ass. That might do him better than any rehab would.

Who are all of these guys who think getting physically violent with women is just the norm? Even cutting a woman down verbally is weak.

This league is out of control. Nothing matters except money. As football fans we watched the league try to take down one player, who is pretty much a guy whom kids should look up to as far as sports and business away from the field over air pressure in the ball that the league can’t even regulate to this day, yet beating women, drinking and driving, murder, drug dealing, rape, child abuse, etc, these are things the league wants to over look because a guy might have a bit of talent but absolutely zero care for anything or anyone around them. Football is a great game, but the people “protecting the shield” are making it tough to support their product.

Poor ‘Johnny Football’, in the sauce again. Perhaps he can get a big contract with the makers of Jack Daniels. Seriously, the Browns need to get him out of the spotlight before he hurts himself or someone else.

As I always thought, Manziel is an updated version of Ryan Leaf. Like Leaf, he’ll probably be out of the league after his 3rd year. And like Leaf he’s an self-entitled punk who uses drugs/alcohol as a crutch. And like Leaf, he’ll most likely ultimately wind up doing prison-time. Maybe someone will make a movie about this loser…like they did with Leaf.

The Browns made a terrible decision in drafting this headcase and there’s no doubt that he’s still on the roster only owing to an edict from the owner. But I think Pettine deserves credit for sticking with McNown even when there was tremendous pressure in Cleveland to start Manziel earlier in the year (despite the fact that he’s accomplished nothing).

“Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel has shown tremendous maturity and growth this year”

    LOL … no he didn’t.

Manziel drafted in the 1st Round (Not his fault) while Doug Flutie was drafted in the 11th Round!
