Given that he’s more than a year from his last action on the field, it feels like it didn’t need to be announced.

But according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, former Packers tight end Jermichael Finley has decided to retire from the NFL.

It was just over a year ago when Finley chose to pursue the $10 million disability policy he took out before an October 2013 neck injury ended his career. He mentioned then that he had offers to continue, but elected not to.

Now that a year has passed, it will at least be easier to convince an insurance company that he is, in fact, finished playing football. And filing retirement paperwork won’t hurt that effort.
