When the Dolphins released cornerback Cortland Finnegan during the offseason, Finnegan said that he was hanging up his cleats for good and retiring from the NFL.
It seems that his retirement was more conditional than it appeared at the time.
According to multiple reports, Finnegan worked out for the Patriots on Wednesday. No deal was struck with New England and it’s unknown if one was considered, although it’s not surprising that they’d check out possibilities at the position after losing Tarell Brown for the season.
Finnegan played 12 games for the Dolphins last year and his play was several large notches below the efforts that made him an All-Pro for the Titans earlier in his career. He wasn’t much better with the Rams in 2012 and 2013, so his willingness to resume his playing career might not be enough to make it a reality.
