NFL fines Damontre Moore $20,000 for late hit on Sam Bradford

AP

One of the dumbest penalties of the NFL season was committed on Monday night by Giants defensive end Damontre Moore, who hit Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford long after Bradford had thrown an incomplete pass on third down. The penalty was incredibly costly for the Giants, as the Eagles marched down the field for a touchdown after the penalty and turned a game they had been losing into a game they dominated the rest of the way.

The penalty has also been costly for Moore, who was fined $20,000 for the hit, according to Jordan Raanan of NJ.com. That’s a heftier fine than players usually get for late hits and roughing the passer, but the NFL apparently thought Moore’s hit was late enough to warrant it.

This is at least the third time in Moore’s three-year career that he has been fined for a late hit.

Moore admitted after the game that his penalty showed a “poor football IQ.” The NFL hopes taking money out of his pocket is enough incentive for Moore to learn when not to hit a quarterback.

  1. That was a really dumb play, but I’m not sure he deserves a fine for it. He didn’t go low or to the head. Seems a little rough to fine the guy so much after the play hurt his team so badly.

  2. cardiovascularendurance that is without a doubt, one of the most idiotic comments I’ve read on here.

This idiot will miss that money the second his career is over.

    ——————————————————————————-

    Which can’t come soon enough.

  4. Late hits are played out. How about early hits, like when Bradford is in pre game warmups, or getting off the bus? That would keep him on his toes.

  5. He is a moron…… This was one of the plays that turned the game around. All i hear is he has potential – but then he does things like this.

Wondering how much time he has left before he is cut.

How many times will it take for him to learn, if it’s his 3rd time?

  7. What about the Giants defenders that were spearing Tony Romo in the back week 1?

It seems that’s their strategy to win games in the NFC East this year (late hits on QB’s). It’s not working.

  8. Football IQ idiot with a lighter wallet. Stupid is as stupid does and this hit was just all kind of stupid.

Moore wrapped Bradford with both arms, lifted him, and pile-drove him into the ground. It was so late, some of the Philly O-linemen had stopped blocking and were looking downfield at the pass. What Moore did was roughing the passer even 30 years ago.

  10. I hope he is a Giant for a long, long time. Anyone who can get one of those priceless expressions on Coughlin’s face is someone I want to see stick around. The only thing that could have made it better was if it was freezing outside and he had his pre-frostbite red face on.

  11. His late hit in week one against Dallas was even worse. Not only is he a moron, but apparently he can’t get the job done when it actually matters.

  12. Damontre Moore was a special talent who under performed in college…that’s a sign that something isn’t right.

His talent is obvious and the lack of brain cells is too.

  13. As a Giants fan, this dope needs to get cut traded or just sit down!
It should be his last year with the giants BUT unless the house cleaning we hope for happens one could only guess.
