Charles Woodson wins his fifth player of the month award

Charles Woodson

AP

Charles Woodson is the oldest defensive player in the NFL, but he’s not showing his age.

Woodson was named the AFC defensive player of the month this morning, recognizing him for his three interceptions in three games in October. It’s the fifth time in his career that Woodson has earned a player of the month award.

Although Woodson turned 39 this month, he still managed an interception in Week Four against the Bears, and two interceptions in Week Five against the Broncos. Woodson is the oldest player ever to have a two-interception game, and the only other players in NFL history to intercept even one pass after turning 39 are Darrell Green and Clay Matthews Jr., the father of Packers linebacker Clay Matthews III.

The Raiders are a surprisingly competitive 3-3 this season, and they’re developing a corps of good young players. But they also have one good old player in Woodson.
