NFL will look into Luck’s undisclosed rib injury

AP

On Sunday, FOX’s Jay Glazer reported that Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has been playing with multiple fractured ribs. The injury had not been disclosed on the injury report.

Moving forward, the NFL will explore whether the failure to mention the injury violated the reporting rules.

“We will look into it,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy tells PFT by email.

Per Glazer, Luck broke the ribs at the same time he injured his shoulder. But the Colts never mentioned the rib injury, and in recent weeks Luck hasn’t appeared on the injury list at all.

The Colts may claim that the injured ribs weren’t disclosed because the ribs at no point caused him to miss practice or games. The Colts also may argue that Luck kept the injury to himself.

Patriots fans already are gleefully pointing out the hypocrisy arising from the Colts, who pulled the pin on the #DeflateGate grenade, potentially breaking the rules in blatant fashion. And the ultimate irony would be a report from ESPN that 11 of 12 ribs were broken.

I’m a Colts fan and call BS. If someone is hurt and it affects their play, put the injury on the report.

  5. skunksprayjim says: Nov 1, 2015 1:44 PM

Get Ted Wells on the case!!!! The dirty cheaters should be fined $1M and be forced to forfeit next years 1st rounder and a 4th rounder in 2017 and Luck should be suspended for 4 games.

  6. kerzondax says: Nov 1, 2015 1:44 PM

The rule is … report it. You report it. Period.

  7. lemmetalkwouldya says: Nov 1, 2015 1:45 PM

Well, well, well …… what’s this, the Colts CHEATING on the injury report????

  10. rushmore86 says: Nov 1, 2015 1:47 PM

Call in Ted Wells and then strip Colts of all 2016 draft picks, Andrew Luck suspended from NFL indefinitely, Pagano and Grigson to be fired, admitt Irsay to insane asylum, stone and quarter Lucas Oil Stadium employee for pumping in fake crowd noise, shred all Colts AFC participation banners. That outta do it. Cheaters.

  11. jrfrom508 says: Nov 1, 2015 1:48 PM

Do you guys think that it’s more probale than not that Andrew Luck is at least generally aware that he has broken ribs?

  12. One for the thumb says: Nov 1, 2015 1:48 PM

I’m not surprised the most heavily fined team in league history is cheating.

They’re the most fined team in league history, it’s what they do.

  13. jeffmage says: Nov 1, 2015 1:48 PM

What a dumpster fire in Indy. A thorough housecleaning is in order.

Can’t believe they let their franchise quarterback play with broken ribs.

  14. frankmalzonefan says: Nov 1, 2015 1:49 PM

Forget about the injury report gamesmanship BS for a minute and consider that with the team Grigson/Irsay have assembled around him, Luck is on track to be the Dan Pastorini of this generation’s NFL players.

As a Pats fan there’s a part of me that revels in the discomfort of the Colts’ management team but as a pro football fan I’m dismayed at the prospect that a guy who should be his franchise’s marquee player could have an unnecessarily short career.

  15. jeffberk2014 says: Nov 1, 2015 1:50 PM

Mike, please stick to the game on the field. Truly, we Patriot fans could give a spit. Speak for yourself.

  16. streetyson says: Nov 1, 2015 1:50 PM

In 2014 the Colts were the most fined team in the league for all their cheating, at just over $4M (a mile ahead of 2nd place Cards at $3M). And that doesn’t include any accounting for sucking for Luck or piping noise. Is it any wonder that this scumbag organization launched the false deflategate nonsense? And is it really any wonder that they are still cheating? All they know is cheating. League should close them down.

  17. smokehouse56 says: Nov 1, 2015 1:50 PM

The 4 top elite teams in the NFL (Denver, Carolina, Packers and the Bengals) play with non reported injured players all the time. It just never comes out in the open.

  18. professorpigskin10 says: Nov 1, 2015 1:52 PM

    Wow.

I hope the NFL makes them vacate their 2014 AFC finalist title.

lol. That was a pretty good last sentence, Florio.

  20. jag1959 says: Nov 1, 2015 1:54 PM

It’s the colts, they threw games not just once but twice to secure franchise QBs and not a word out of 345 Park Ave. They could take a shot at the president and the league office would swear they were just cleaning the gun

  21. Fake French Accent says: Nov 1, 2015 1:54 PM

Whenever I read stories like this, I always picture the NFL like the Agents from the Matrix, and Goodell as Agent Smith, I’m sure the NFL views themselves much in the same fashion.

  22. linvillegorge says: Nov 1, 2015 1:56 PM

Or maybe they’re just saying his ribs are broken as an excuse for why the NFL’s annointed chosen one for the next great QB has sucked this year.

  23. truck8595 says: Nov 1, 2015 1:57 PM

    They’ll “look into it”.

    Sure.

  24. dkelley1186 says: Nov 1, 2015 1:57 PM

Roger Dodger won’t do anything because he’ll lose his insider and right hand man in Grigson if he punishes the colts.

  25. jmdanieli says: Nov 1, 2015 1:59 PM

Not disclosing an injury on the injury report is a violation of the rules. Anyone involved in this deception should be disciplined, ie the player , the coach, the GM & the owner. The same owner who probably gave Luck pills from his own stash.
After all it’s about the integrity of the game , right Roger?
    CHEATERS!!

  26. bksk07 says: Nov 1, 2015 1:59 PM

  28. truthprofessor says: Nov 1, 2015 2:05 PM

When the Jets were fined years ago for not disclosing a Brett Favre injury, it was made clear injuries MUST BE REPORTED, even if the player participates in practices & games. If an injury affects a player’s ability to perform, not reporting it is, in fact, CHEATING.

  29. Stevan says: Nov 1, 2015 2:06 PM

This looks bad for the Colts – they’d better get Brady on the phone about the best way to destroy the evidence. What’s his cell phone number again?

  30. redrew says: Nov 1, 2015 2:08 PM

The NFL does not investigate Indy.
Indy tells the NFL who to investigate.
Both Indy and the NY Jests dominate within the walls of the NFL Park Avenue office and the league agenda is clear……take down New England at all costs.
When NE asks to have their locker room swept for bugs….the NFL ignores the request. When the Jests ask to have NE’s locker room swept for bugs…..the NFL sprints into action.
PS…why was the NY Jests Director of Security roaming over by the NE bench during the NE/Jests game? And why didn’t this Director of Security know the standards deployed on game day…specifically that home teams are responsible for referee battery replacement? And why is the Director of NY Jests Security’s son tweeting out his wishes that Brady gets injured?
Amazing the quality of employee the Jests continue to attract. And these employees are the farm system for the NFL home office. That explains everything you need to know why the NFL is turning into a clown show. Roger the Jests fan/former employee loves his Jests coworkers…….and the league is now a laughing stock of boobery.

    Yes or No.

    GUILTY

1st rd pick for the “integrity” of the game and 1 million dollars in fines, since the Colts have shown a pattern of CHEATING.

99% of all NFL players have sore ribs, or something that isn’t feeling 100%. I don’t see 99% of all players listed on the injury report. But if the NFL had to decide between protecting players from injury, or providing Las Vegas with a full description of every sore spot on a player’s body, or you might call it a target area for opposing defenders to strike, which choice would the NFL make? More and more, it seems like big money gambling is running the NFL. Oh well. It is what it is.
